CO₂ Laser Treatments

Restore smoother, firmer skin with advanced fractional CO₂ laser performed under specialist medical supervision.

What can we treat?

Fractional CO₂ laser resurfacing is one of the most powerful non-surgical treatments available for significant skin rejuvenation.
At SkinCentre, this treatment is performed by our  specialist dermatologist to deliver meaningful, long-term improvement in skin texture, tone and firmness.

Unlike lighter laser treatments, CO₂ resurfacing works at deeper levels of the skin to stimulate collagen regeneration and remodel damaged tissue.

Why Choose SkinCentre for CO2 Laser Treatment?

CO₂ laser resurfacing is a medical-grade procedure requiring careful assessment, planning and aftercare.
At SkinCentre, your treatment is:

  • Performed by an experienced speciaslised Dermatologist

  • Customised to your skin type, concern severity and downtime tolerance

  • Delivered using advanced fractional laser technology

  • Supported by structured pre- and post-treatment protocols

  • Focused on achieving natural, long-term outcomes

We prioritise safe, evidence-based treatment over aggressive cosmetic approaches.

How does CO₂ laser work?

CO laser produce’s light at a 10,600nm wavelength, which is absorbed by water in the tissue. This energy heats the water to its boiling point, causing the targeted tissue to evaporate.

Some heat is absorbed by surrounding tissue, leading to coagulation, which stops bleeding (haemostasis) and stimulates deeper layers of skin, promoting fibroblast activity and new collagen formation (neocollagenesis).

Due to the intensity and precision of the laser, it can only be safely operated by a qualified Cosmetic Surgeon or Dermatologist. The laser can be delivered through a scanner, which controls how the energy is applied—either across the entire treatment area or in fractions (fractional ablation). The combined effects of ablation and coagulation remove damaged skin and trigger the body to regenerate fresh, youthful skin.

This process:

  • Removes damaged surface skin

  • Stimulates new collagen production

  • Triggers tissue remodelling

  • Improves skin density and elasticity

As healing occurs, skin becomes:
✔ Smoother
✔ Firmer
✔ More even in tone
✔ Visibly rejuvenated

Treatment intensity can be adjusted depending on:

  • Depth of wrinkles or scarring

  • Skin thickness

  • Desired downtime

  • Overall rejuvenation goals

A consultation with a Specialist is the essential first step in your laser journey. During this first meeting, you’ll have the chance to discuss your goals for your skin and concerns you may have to determine if the CO2 laser is the right treatment for you. The Specialist will walk you through all pre and post treatment instructions and offer a personalised quote based on your specific requirements.

  • If you live outside the Tauranga area, please arrange for accommodation as you must stay locally for the night of your procedure.
  • Make sure to have someone drive you to and from the clinic on the day of your procedure. You will receive sedation and cannot drive for 24 hours afterward.
  • If you experience cold or facial sores, fever, or any other illness prior to your treatment, please let us know.

On the day of your procedure, we ask that you arrive a two hours early. This will allow us enough time to go over all the necessary information and get you ready for the treatment.

The procedure will be performed using local anesthetic and light oral sedation, ensuring a low-risk experience with minimal discomfort.

Once everything is set, we will take you to the treatment room to begin. The duration time in theatre can range from 80 to 120 minutes, depending on the specific treatment being performed.

Throughout the process, our specialist and nursing team will be with you, checking in regularly to ensure your comfort.

After the procedure is completed, we will call your driver to collect you. We will send you home with a goodie bag that includes essential items, along with clear instructions for your recovery.

Recovery

We will provide you with a full in depth recovery regimen on the day of your procedure.

Typical recovery timeline:

  • Redness and swelling: 5–14 days

  • Skin peeling/crusting: 5–10 days

  • Residual pinkness: several weeks

  • Collagen remodelling: continues for months

Many patients take 1–2 weeks away from social or professional commitments depending on treatment depth.

Strict sun protection and aftercare are essential for optimal outcomes.

Follow-Up Appointments

Your follow-up appointments will be scheduled for you on the day of your procedure. You will need to attend a follow-up visit 24 hours, 7 days, and 4 weeks after your procedure.

These appointments are crucial for monitoring your healing progress and ensuring that everything is going smoothly.

If you have any concerns or questions about your recovery, our nursing team is always available to assist you.
