Dr Salmon is New Zealand’s most published Dermatologic Surgeon, he has over 80 papers published in the Peer-Reviewed Literature, mostly on facial reconstruction. As recognition of his international standing, he was in 2018 awarded Honorary Fellowship in the Australasian College of Dermatology. He is an international member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American College of Mohs Surgery, American Society of Dermatologic Surgery and the International Society of Dermatologic Surgery. He has been asked to chair sessions of the ILDS and WCD. He has been a guest presenter on reconstruction of the nose at the American College of Mohs Surgery meeting on several occasions, this is a singular honour especially for a non-American and cements his status as a globally recognized master of facial reconstruction. He continues to teach reconstruction through his Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Mohs and Cosmetic Surgery in New Zealand. New Zealand Mohs Surgeons who have completed fellowships with him are Dr Neil Mortimer, Dr Juber Hafiji, Dr Junie Wong, Dr AJ Seine and Dr Alistair Brown.
He has previously served on the Specialist Advisory Committee for the RACP on behalf of the NZDSI. He has contributed significantly to the RACP Advanced Training in Dermatology Curriculum. He had Co-Convened three NZDSI Scientific Meetings.
He is currently in private practice in Tauranga, and Auckland.
Dr Salmon’s areas of special interest are cutaneous oncology, micrographic surgery, prevention of skin cancer, sun damage and cosmetic surgery.
