Like every medical speciality, appearance medicine experiences constant change, the result of extensive research from medical professionals. If you’re a risk-averse person who’s been reluctant to try out dermal fillers or other cosmetic treatments, then you can breathe easy – Skin Centre is the place for you.

Renowned for staying at the forefront of their field, Skin Centre is a world-class dermatological facility who maintain an active core focus of ‘excellence’ for every service they provide. Accordingly, they ensure the highest level of training and qualifications for their staff – their expert nurse injectors are no exception.

Take dermal fillers, for example. When first introduced at the Skin Centre about 20 years ago, the primary ingredient was bovine collagen. An allergy test was performed on every patient to exclude the possibility of a reaction to a ‘foreign’ substance. They’ve come a long way since then; products and techniques have become extremely safe with few side effects. Modern dermal fillers are made from hyaluronic acid, a natural human derivative, used throughout dermatology, with excellent results.

Leanne Cashmore, Skin Centre’s senior appearance medicine nurse, makes the following points. “The risks associated with any treatment reduce significantly with an experienced practitioner.” She is eager to dispel the myth that you’ll look obviously different. “That’s one of our patient’s biggest fears – looking too different or unnatural. But, that look you see in magazines with heavily plumped up celebrities, goes completely against the grain at Skin Centre. We don’t want to see a different you; we aim for a fresh, restored appearance. That’s why the hyaluronic acid is so effective – you can walk out the door, and no one needs to know.”

Patients often express a natural fear of pain, too, but Leanne is quick to offer reassurance. “We can use topical anaesthetics if need be, and technology is racing ahead so fast, that our options for administration increase all the time. The new V2 Beauty Booster is a great example; it’s purpose-built to deliver the filler in up to six areas at a time – a vast reduction in time and discomfort.”

Leanne has also noted some confusion amongst her patients about the difference between Botox and fillers. “Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in our bodies, so it’s very safe. Injecting hyaluronic acid also stimulates our bodies to produce more of it. Where Botox is designed to put muscles to sleep, dermal fillers have a very different job. They rehydrate, restore volume and smooth the surface of your skin while retaining your natural movement. Last but not least dermal fillers have an extended life of between six to 24 months, depending on the area.”

Skin Centre has some of the most experienced nurse injectors in the Bay Of Plenty making it hard to find a better choice for dermal filler treatments. Make your own decision with a free no-obligation consultation – the perfect chance to get all those questions answered and all your doubts soothed.
